Hi again all,
first of all - thanks, goldencrazy for starting this thread. Love hearing what others are doing to their 30Ws.
Like the idea of the combo locks. One less key to deal with. We'll definitely do that before our fall trip.
Went to Home Depot yesterday on our way to where we keep the RV stored and bought one of the pull-out shelves we thought was the right one. Got it to the RV and it was 1/4" too wide. (Big sigh) They didn't have a very big selection. I'll try one of the other Home Depots next time I go into Pensacola. And you may have something different in your part of the country.
Regarding the gap in the closet. Are you talking about that area behind the panel under the drawers? The one with a vinyl-floored, raised ledge in the back compartment behind that bedroom closet panel? We've wondered about that, too. It's not really useful for much of anything because it's too hard to reach from the rear of the RV.
We had thought about trying to somehow put the cats' litter box there but have abandoned that idea. If it had an outside door to it on the driver's side, we'd do that, but as it is, it's just too much trouble. We'd have to close that area off from the rest of the rear compartment with a removable panel for access to the litter box. Although I really wanted a permanent spot for it, I think we may go with rondeb's idea of a box that will fit in front of the passenger seat when we're parked.
Regardless, we're going to insulate that whole rear compartment to cut down on the amount of cold air that comes in. Over the Christmas holidays we were at a couple of Florida State Parks (Anastasia and Payne's Prairie) and it got below freezing several nights. Even had ice on the slide topper from rain the day before, once. After our trip to the NC mountains last October, Tom had caulked all the cracks we could see, but while the cold no longer "blew" in through the cracks, it still "radiated in" from that area.
Maybe they left that area open so you could put something longer in the back. If so, I'd rather they had put in another drawer or two drawers for the bedroom. Wonder how hard that would be to do? Could order the drawers from Winnebago.
rondeb,
We're going to put in the insulation in the front cabinets, like you did. What other cabinet openings are you doing? We've thought about that, too, as we'd like to do some cold weather camping. (Last Christmas wasn't intended to be cold weather camping, however!) I'd love to hear what you're planning.
I envy those of you who have your RVs at home. We have to store ours 25 miles away. We live on a barrier island and our lot is only 45 feet wide. Even if it wasn't against our HOA rules, there's just no room for our RV here. We've tried to do at least a short trip every 2-3 months, but we haven't taken it anywhere since December. So every so often we bring it home and park it in front of the house for a couple of days to work on something. Just like to run the whole thing, exercise the generator, and keep the tires from being parked in the same position for too long.
