My Magnum charger/inverter can be manually placed in standby but will not invert when there is 120V present. Instead it continues to charge the batteries. You have essentially the same charger design.
I never have any dimming under the conditions you describe. The Magnum instantly and automatically corrects for any change in DC load or AC input change.
I'm very suspicious of what your dealer (or whoever) is telling you. Maybe they don't want to solve the problem and possibly there is more to the story...
