2015 Sprinter 4x4 price and build: +$6500 or $6800

Ouch! I expected a few thousand more.

The 4x4 high and 4x4 low/high options are listed under "Specialized Packages", rather than "Drive-train" on the Mercedes website:

Can't wait to drive one, one Australian review stated the ride was comfortable and capable. 4x4 Review

Not sure what to think about the ABS based all wheel drive: "4ETS uses the ABS wheel sensors. Automatic brake application by means of 4ETS has the same effect as up to three differential locks: the inter-axle lock, the rear axle lock and the front axle lock". "This technology is also used in the Vito 4x4, Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, and the ML-Class and GL-Class off-roaders."

  • The funny thing is that those prices are not really out of line. It requires the OM642 6 cylinder so that is another $910... but it is understandable because the four-banger's engine/transmission likely wouldn't cut the mustard.

Of course, The $6800 is the way to go. 4-Low is something very much worth having.
