We are "drivers", not "parkers" and average 20,000 miles a year which is why the mpg is something we will pay attention to.

Your best bet it to buy a car to tow with you. That way you are getting TWO vehicles from point A to point B for just about the same fuel usage. Basically, since you are now figuring mileage with TWO vehicles, your miles per gallon has just doubled from 7 to 14 MPG.
Sorry but everyone is right and basically all full size class A motor homes get close to the same poor mileage, regardless of length. Altho the length and gross weight may change, the manufacturer changes the final gear ratio which does affect your mileage.
We usually put 15,000-20,000 miles per year on our coach and use 7 MPG as a fairly accurate gauge to determine our yearly fuel cost. Fuel is pretty much our largest expenditure each year and will probably get worse with the new regulations and fuels that are proposed.
