Towing, the ecoboost does not achieve the same mpg numbers a diesel does. The longevity of a diesel is of little consequence as most don't put more that 100-200k on their MHs anyway. So it boils down to getting up the hill, because these arguements are null for flatland. Going up a grade, 6% and higher, a diesel is going to be the better choice. RPM, heat, durability, power, efficiency....in what arena is a gasser going to win going up I70 to Eisenhower tunnel? Even these grand new turbocharged gas engines, are they going to give what MHs need? We are comparing a futureistic gas engine with real diesel engines. If technology for gas is getting that much better, wouldn't the diesel technology become better as well?

To answer the question in bold : Horsepower and cost of ownership.
To answer the question about technology and the diesel engine: 2 things...
First, the EPA is now beating down the diesels like they did the gas engine many years ago. The Diesel tech does still get better however as there is definitely a push for more and more HP in the light duty truck market. Durability and efficiency seem to be taking a hit there. Interesting how it mirrors what happened to gas engines starting decades ago.
Second, diesel owners already think that they have the best engines all around so there is no need for improvement. :D
