460 plug wires

Iam having a problem burning plug wires with stock exhaust manifolds....they are not leaking...pure heat. have ordered headers...but the Ford racing wires rated at 650 degrees on the boots only last 300 miles.
what do others use? the original 95 wires lasted 15 yrs/50000 mi till the manifolds leaked and instantly burned them up.
  • Yes, the heat shield is part of the gasket.Would not hurt to use the gasket with the headers.
The Ford Racing wires are the same quality.

There are wires available with a metal sleeve cover over the plug wires. I know some of the 351cid engines came with them.
  • OK Skillet...Ill check into it...are they a gasket too? are motorcraft wires more heat resistant than Ford racing wires..?
can those be used on headers ?
  • You're welcome.

They do come stock. FelPro has them also.
Be sure to use the Motorcraft plug wires.
  • MR Skillet..thank you seems like that's exactly what I need...where do you get them...did they come stock ?
  • A friend had a similar problem with a dodge 440. We later found out that it originally had metal heat shields that either rusted away or were taken off by someone. Could it be you have the same situation?
