- EffyExplorer IISo what kind of service is required at a CG? No way 50a can handle that draw.
- tatestExplorer IIMost of the rigs I've seen with four or five boxes on top, they were all RV air conditioners or heat pumps. Easier to manage different cooling requirements for different parts of the coach. Like having a right-sized room A/C in each room.
$3,000,000 coach, $2500 worth of heat pumps doesn't amount to much (buildergets them wholesale). Probably spent a lot more than that on entertainment equipment, stone countertops, or power supply for all the gadgets. - bshpilotExplorera friend of ours is in a big name band and he gave us a tour of one of the roadie coaches...6 bunks & all had their own thermostat (don't know how it all worked).
over the road coaches (provost, mci, etc) have massive engine run air conditioning - but they aren't free to run...consuming 30hp or more....not to mention the 4 or 5 alternators that they run too. - Two_JayhawksExplorerTheir cooling demands are or can be very high you bet they are all air conditioners.
- Big_KatunaExplorer IIThey get ready for showtime in the bus sometimes and there might be 3-4 hair dryers going at once.
- John_S_Explorer IIOver the road air is still the best and easiest way to cool the bus going down the road but if you have too many slides you can not put it in the coach. So, big inverters and three of them will let you run acs as you run down the road. Oh the new buses also use Lithium ion batteries too.
- VintageRacerExplorerEntertainer coaches can have 6 - 10 bunks plus a master bedroom/lounge, and they usually have 5 or more rooftop AC units for when the bus is parked. They use the factory engine driven AC when driving. They aren't really motorhomes or RV's, they are pretty specific in purpose.
Brian - Golden_HVACExplorerNo air conditioners at all, but I suspect that you are right, 5 heat pumps.
They used to have several engine run air conditioners on a bus like that, but it consumes engine power, is very expensive, and less reliable than a rooftop unit.
Still the drivers compartment has engine run A/C unit, as well as dash heater from engine hot water, due to the requirement to have defroster that has a cooling coil on it. Might be one or two auxiliary rear A/C units run by the engine only (like car air conditioner), but probably not any due to all the rooftop units, and space needs.
It is not uncommon to have a 20 KW diesel generator on a Provost RV. Now days that is vented through the roof, so in a crowded camping situation, you will not smell the generator exhaust on the ground.
The TV show I was watching, they had a optional $125,000 slide out! I have no idea why the manufacture charges $125,000 more to install a slide out, but they can!
Fred. - poncho62ExplorerI guess these days, one A/C unit is considered roughing it
- PeralkoExplorerEntertainment coaches have up to 12 bunks-6 on each side of the coach. I always thought they had separated ACs for the bunk areas, since they have drapes for privacy.
