We average around 8. Sometimes as high as 10, sometimes as low as 7. There are so many variables like terrain, speed, towing or not, etc.
The way we look at it is this: it isn't our daily driver and we're still usually ahead of airfare, especally if you include stops in multiple destinations. Plus we get to have our dogs along when we trave, and the lack of dogsitting fees is usually a near full offset in gas depending on the length of our trip.
