For us fuel economy is fantastic at 55mph, but the other drivers are not. When on the highway we tend to do around 62mph, which is a good compromise between fuel economy and not getting rear-ended by people paying more attention to their phones than the road. That said, I'll travel the backroads when they are not overly windy because the scenery is often far more interesting that that of the highways and 55mph is the common speed limit.
