86 Coachmen Class A wiring

I have a 1986 Coachmen 29.5 Classic Class A. I found 110 volt wires in to vent opening above the bed. I cannot find where these wires to. The hot (Black) line has no power and the neutral and ground are grounded. Does anyone know where they come out. I have looked in all the spaces and power boxes. I would also like a wiring diagram of the rig if someone knows where to find it.

Thanks

  • I borrow a tracker and found the 110 volt wires at the vent goes no where. The wires in the sealing stop about 6 inches from passengers side wall. That is why it doesn't reach the fuse box. My question is why Coachmen would put about 3 feet of wire that goes no where.
  • On a 1986 motorhome that was 30 amp, the vent 120 wire was for the 2nd AC and "usually" that wiring was run to the APU (genset) area. At your APU box area, find the 4 x4 metal 120 box that the APU 120 output goes to and open the cover. The odds are you will find the other end of that 120 wire. On 30 amp motorhomes, they could only run 1 AC and the 2nd optional AC was wired direct to the larger optional APU (5.0kw or larger). They did not have EMS systems back then. Doug
  • I am the second owner and I bought it in 1990. It has never been anything other then a vent. While working on it I found the wires. I want to add the second A/C, I found the 110 volt wire at the vent. It goes into a small hole the is in the aluminum frame around the vent opening. I find no wire coming out of the wall at its base. I have looked in the generator area and the power center. No luck. I thought someone my know where the other end of the wire maybe.
  • Could be that there was an air conditioner over the vent space. If so, the wire will be found at or very near the converter. If there are switches by the converter the switch will be for AC shore power, flipped the other way, AC generator. The wire at the vent opening may be tied to the switch. If there is a type of fantastic fan (12 volt motor) the previous owner may have run the existing 120 volt lines to the 12 volt panel rather than trying to fish new wires to the 12 volt appliance? In any case I'm sure the wire runs across the ceiling and down the wall to the converter area in the shortest distance possible.
    Hope that helps.
  • Probably for a second air conditioner.

It may originate at the power panel or possibly in the generator location. If at the panel or the generator it is probably capped off since it was not used. JMO
