I would guess air in the fuel lines. I wouldn't worry about the RPM not showing on the tach. You know it's turning over. Just to verify it's not something else, I would crack a banjo nut at the first injector and bleed for fuel. There's not much that goes wrong with a mechanical engine with symptoms like that.
