94 Southwind House Batteries. Begging for help :(

Positive to positive and negative to negative should measure 0 that should NOT make a circuit. You also stated that when plugged in or engine running you measure 12 at the 1 pos and 1 neg, this says everything outside the battery compartment works. One possibility is one of the 6 volt batteries is wired in backwards???
