Sorry, I had to start off with that but I had to get that out of my system. Now I feel grounded.
You said it will roll even with the shift lever in park, correct? I think it may be more than an adjustment. I haven't looked inside a transmission for decades, so things must have changed but in my 55 Merc, there was a pawl that locked the trans when in park. I don't know how it worked in '98 but I don't think that it part of the parking brake.
