When you are in drive the hydraulic system keeps the shoes expanded off of the drum when you put it in park the switch releases the hydraulic pressure and the spring and the cable pulls the shoes against the drum to prevent the MH from rolling. On lighter vehicles a parking pawl in the transmission will work fine but on a MH that weights over 15,000 lbs it would damage the transmission.
Hank I'm not going to argue with you, I just don't see how the shift lever on the steering column can activate a drum brake with such ease. And if it does, why have the parking brake lever and the transmission shift lever doing the same job?
I can be a smart a## at times and a know it all at others but not in this case. How does the shift lever activate the drum brake? I really would like to know.
