On my 1986 Chevy p30 on the front, is a reservoir for trans fluid. This has a hose running to the power steering pump, mounted on the drivers side of the motor, that feeds the hydrovac and the power steering. If left empty for a extended period of time, you will hear a gear wine coming from the pump, and have no power breaks or power steering. You will still be able to stop and steer, but you will have the legs and arms off a body builder.
