A Chat With Dish Customer Service

This is so unbelievable, I just have to share it.

Jescel (ID: BZ1): Hi, my name is Jescel (ID: BZ1). How may I help you?
dean Deurwaarder: need to have dns service on a tailgater. what is the cost?
Jescel (ID: BZ1): I can help with that.
Jescel (ID: BZ1): May i have your account number?
dean Deurwaarder: i would be a new customer
Jescel (ID: BZ1): I understand.
Jescel (ID: BZ1): May I have the phone number on the account?
dean Deurwaarder: like i said, i would be a new customer, so there is no account.
Jescel (ID: BZ1): Yes. I know.
Jescel (ID: BZ1): I understand.
Jescel (ID: BZ1): I need your number to pull up the account.
Jescel (ID: BZ1): Thank you.
dean Deurwaarder: so how can i give you "the phone number on the account" . how can i explain this more clearly-----THERE IS NO ACCOUNT AND THEREFORE NO PHONE NUMBER----I WOULD BE A NEW CUSTOMER

Jescel (ID: BZ1): May I know if you are now in your RV?
dean Deurwaarder: NO
Jescel (ID: BZ1): Thank you.
dean Deurwaarder: i am not in the rv

Jescel (ID: BZ1): May I know if the service is for your RV? Or not?
dean Deurwaarder: for the rv. i don't think i would want a tailgater for home

Jescel (ID: BZ1): for your tailgaiter equipment is available to your nearest retailer.
Jescel (ID: BZ1): I'll give you and address.
Jescel (ID: BZ1): May I know your zipcode?

This was after 3 phone calls. The 1st rep told me she did not know anything about the Tailgater and could not transfer me to anyone that did know. I call back 2 other time and was hung up on after about 30 seconds each time.

  • We have DirecTv at home and Dish Network in the TT. I think it's a toss up which one has dumber people on their help line. We pay more then twice as much for DirecTv and don't have HD. Dish doesn't have YES Network. We got DirecTv when they were called USSB years ago and they tell us if we want it cheaper we should cancel and become a new customer. Cable says they won't go to places where there are so few houses so we won't know if they are any better.
  • I don't think you spoke to a person. I think you spoke with a machine. No human cannot be that bad.
  • Ahhh, we went through this in September when DH bought me a Winegard Pathway II as a birthday gift. He went through a VERY similar conversation. Then we opened the box and all over inside it tells you to NOT call Dish and to call Winegard directly. After speaking with them it took all of 10 minutes to set up. BTW, we do use ours at home and on the road - built a little elevated stand for it and it is easy enough to disconnect and take it on the road :)
  • Your mistake. You should have requested help from somebody who's native language was English. :)
  • We left Dish recently for a issue we had and the conversion went like this.
