We have camped all across Canada. We have been in some very remote areas, 8 hours or so from another person, where only a satellite phone will be of any use. We never have carried a gun and guns are illegal in parks unless it is a designated hunting area, asll licences etc needed.
Educate yourself and family about wildlife. Not from hearsay, but from a qualified, experienced person. The biggest lesson is respect.
We have had bear, elk, moose etc. Walk throughout site while camping. If you know how to camp properly in the environment you will more than likely be fine.
Millions of people camp in Canada where there is dangerous wildlife. You do not hear of people being killed by wildlife very much.
Education and respect!!!
