Windcrasher.....As I stated before we camp and hike in very remote areas. A few places have no cell service at all and in order to reach the nearest satellite phone could be quite a few hours away. We have seriously thought about a satellite phone due to illnesses we both have. They are a bit more $ than the cell but if you are able to purchase one and are out of range for cell then get one.
Quick story....we met a couple in the bushes, both in their early 80's. They have camped with their TC for years, park it on crown land and head out. She had a heart attack, it took him 4 hrs to reach a satellite phone. It took them. Total of 9 hrs to reach her after her attack. The following year we met them again, this time they had a satellite phone. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with us in the bushes, wine and lobster.
