I suspect the "drain it warm" warning started back when oil was a single grade product and draining it cold took forever and failed to take the sludge with it. Now that we have multi grade and synthetic products the oil is thin cold. My personal opinion is that my engine drains good cold takes the sludge with it and I actually get more old oil out. So for me it's drained cold.
