Well folks we are thinking of selling our 40 ft foretravel, and getting something like a 21 chinook, and spending one out of every 3 or so days in a motel...it has gotten so rrv parks are half the cos...

Well, one thing to think about is that not all hotels take pets. I certainly understand you wanting to downsize, especially, if you think your rig is now TOO big. You are smart for thinking about comfort and maneuverability. Things change in life and you are apparently recognizing that fact.
We are currently thinking of moving up to a 45 ft. from our 42 ft. which should last us for at least 10 more years. WAY in the future I might do exactly what you are thinking about.
If I were to consider downsizing like you are talking about, I would look at something on the Sprinter Chassis (diesel, better mileage).... The Winnebago View has a slide out which would give you a little more room.
We, too, have a washer and dryer (as another poster mentioned) and would hate to give that up but downsizing takes sacrifices.
