A used Newell, what do you think?

I'd like your thoughts on the Newell's from lets say 2002 to 2006? Would you consider an 8 to 12 years old Newell ?

American builds a great coach with its Eagle and Heritage brands and Entegra has the Cornerstone, all top of the line coaches. And I know you can buy a newer one of them for the same money as an older Newell.

My question is... is the build of the Newell so much better so that it is a viable consideration over the other newer rigs mentioned above?

I'm probably asking the question poorly and I apologize for that. I know a Newell is a beautiful coach but would you choose one 8 to 12 years old with the expectation of it going another 20 years?

Thanks for that MPG information you don't see that very often. Is there one diesel manufacturer, lets say from 2004 to 2014 that has the best reputation for fuel efficiency?

I've noticed that the diesel seen the most in rigs today is Cummins and the more expensive the rig the larger the Cummins. I also know if there is one diesel that you can get worked on almost anywhere its Cummins. That bodes well for sure!

It probably doesn't have long-term life of a Newell/Prevost/Wanderlodge. But, I'll be shocked if anyone can drive one of those enough to wear them out. Same is probably true of Foretravel (to a lesser extent).

You can't pin one number on a Wanderlodge. You are talking about a LOT of different engines over a LOT of years. I believe you can say the same about Prevosts and Newells. But, being that I own a Wanderlodge, I know more about those than the other 2.

Caveat: The below are based on what I have read on the Wanderlodge forums and there may be some deviation.

The units made in the 60's and early/mid 70's had a 534 gas engine and got like 4-5MPG.

6V92's and 8V92's diesel will get 4.5 (if you hammer it) to 5.5MPG - maybe 6MPG if you baby it.
These engines were offered from 1982-1996.

3208's will go anywhere from 6.5-10MPG - depending on which version of the 3208 you are talking and what year (I can think of 3 different configurations off the top of my head).
These engines were offered 1977-1992.

The Series 60's will get 6.5-7.5MPG.
Series 60 was offered from 1995-2003 (not sure about the 2003 part - it might've been 2002).

The 6C8.3L Cummins will get 6.5-8MPG (depending on which model).
These were offered 1994-1997

The M11 Cummins gets 7-8MPG and was offered in 1996-1999.

And that would normally include the generator and 2 roof airs running.

Also, I've never felt the need for heated floors; I'm always trying to get cool when we travel, not warm :-) But I understand it's nice when you are lucky enough to be in those cool climates. Ours has carpet throughout (except the head); most people do not want carpet, but we like it.

And that would normally include the generator and 2 roof airs running.

Also, I've never felt the need for heated floors; I'm always trying to get cool when we travel, not warm :-) But I understand it's nice when you are lucky enough to be in those cool climates. Ours has carpet throughout (except the head); most people do not want carpet, but we like it.

When we were searching, starting back in 2010 until we bought our coach in 2012, I really wanted a Wanderlodge - but just kinda got scared off by researching and even talking to an owner who was a friend. Clearly the quality was top-notch; they just seemed to be more complex than I was prepared to handle. As one guy told me \"they have solenoids that operate solenoids\". In reality, I don't think it would have been all that bad; I was just a first-time coach owner and was hesitant.

Never seriously considered a Prevost. Looked at one I could afford, and just didn't feel comfortable in it - it seemed like it just didn't have the space inside that I wanted. No slides on that one, however.

We looked at a Newell for sale at PPL in Houston - a pretty old one - and I was really impressed with the quality; I just didn't like the interior. Lots of laminated cabinets, which just didn't appeal to me. It was a really solid beast of a coach, though.

So, we finally got a look at a Foretravel and really liked it. Clearly, it's a \"motorhome\" and not a \"bus\"; but I can tell you that after driving other DPs this Foretravel is a whole different (better) experience than any other I'd driven. And the interior was more appealing - seems more spacious (even without slides), and the quality of the woodwork (walnut in ours) is unbeatable in my opinion. Plus, it had two bonuses: 1. the manufacturer is still in business and will work on my coach, and 2. it gets maybe twice the fuel mileage of a Wanderlodge or Newell (although, I don't believe any of us who drive these machines should be super concerned with fuel economy).

Also, the Foretravel seemed to be a much simpler machine, with systems that I might be able to work on myself - with the help and advice of other owners, who participate in a great owners' forum.
