Has anyone ever heard of a single a/c unit not being able to start and run on a 20amp shore power circuit? We bought a new coach and the dealer says don't run a/c unless connected to a 30 amp service or connected to the gen. They say it will cook the compressor. We have always run a/c units in trailers or coaches off a 20 amp circuit without a problem when at home so I am perplexed about what I am missing?? Thoughts?
Yes, Cedarville,
I have some thoughts..
First off, almost none of what people here call a 20 amp circuit is actually a 20 Amp Circuit!! Two parallel blades on the plug makes it a 15 amp circuit.
A 15 amp circuit should start and run a 15KBTU A/C unit. But it will only do that with no competition. If you are on a single 15amp circuit and want to run the A/C, go ahead. But before you start it, make sure that the water heater and reefer are on gas and the house bank is charged. Tell the girls, "No Hair Dryers!"
The salesman said that because doesn't want to hear from you again when you think you have a warranty issue that is really operator caused. He has probably had plenty of complaints from other sales that will haunt him.
