A/C units

I plugged the motorhome into shore power. Naturally of course the A/C unit is not putting out cold air. The rear one won't even come on. Even though the switches are set to front so that they both will come on. I have two brand new portable 13000 btu units. I know they will cool off the RV with out a problem. but I hate HATE "jerry rigged stuff" My question is where and how can I get at least one used unit without selling my soul for it. Naturally around here the RV places don't have anything used. I don't even want to know what a new unit costs. I am not cheap. I just don't have the funds. I am sure some people will say "why have an RV when you can't afford this or that" as they are driving a brand new DP. My answer why can't I? I am real frustrated as I need this to be livable soon . I can't live in an RV without AC. and Naturally the driver's AC don't work either. I hate **** that don't work.

  • I can see one bad one,, but both????? this is bull****. If I ever buy another RV ever again which I most likely never ever will (I will stick to my damn buses) If it is missing just one item, I will walk. I got to install the generator. Had to build a rack for it as the generator I have is 22 inches tall, while the box for the generator in the motorhome is only 21 inches. been a frustrating day,, of course I would love to get an emerald, but naturally I can't afford it. I am frustrated. I may as well have finished my bus conversion. Sorry I am just really pissed off Forgive me. Unless God drops two working A/C units from the sky, or some miracle happens I am at whits end.
  • That is 1200 bucks for the two. I can't afford that God this is getting really upsetting. I have to figure something out. How much would a used one cost.
  • if the compressor on the rear air is shot then you will have to replace the unit more than likely. If you have craigslist there check under rv section. In my area there are a fewnew a/c units there cheaper priced.
  • first off,
you can only run ONE a/c on a 30 amps or smaller service
many rv's with two a/c and 30 amps service only run both if using the generator
and only one from shore power

a/c's can be replaced, they can be serviced IF you fine an A/C tech whiling to climb on the roof

about $600 each just to buy them,

    replacement is fairly simple
  • yes I have enough voltage 116V. The only thing that works in this piece of ****, is the fridge engine tranny headlights and toilet. genny missing.Have to build a frame to fit in my Onan. The blender don't work the ice maker was taken out and the A/C units don't work , one the compressor runs as you can hear it outside No cold air though. the rear one with the front one off. runs then when I switch to cooling the compressor is shorted as you can hear it hum and pops the breaker.
  • Have you actually checked the VOLTAGE insi9de the RV when the A/C is turned on? Should be at least 108 volts. If not, start there as where you are plugged in is crap.
  • Shane, I'm sure a 'tech' person while chime in soon. If the units are original, they may not be good anymore (31 yrs. old). Have you owned the coach very long? DId they ever work for you?

I wish you all the luck in the world but sometimes things just break. I'm like you, I HAVE to have my air.

  • It is a 1982 Holiday Rambler. One AC wont put out cold air and one when the compressor comes on it is locked and pops the breaker. I am about to drive this coach to the scrappers I am so angry, I don't know what to do. I got to have A/C and Alabama is HOT in the summer and I can't do hot. I don't want to drill holes in the floor to vent the portables.
  • Since you are suppling very detailed information of your 2014 Prevost Marathon coach, just check to see that your supply breaker is not thrown.

    Kidding aside...
-what kind of coach and year?
    -what brand of air conditioners?
    -what amp of shore power?
    -what brand of thermostat?
