A/C while driving

I have never driven an RV in hot weather, my question is while driving is the dash A/C enough to cool my 30 foot class A cool? Will I have to have to use my roof A/C to keep cool. Do you get better gas mileage using the dash A/C or roof A/C? If you are driving 55 mph and figuring 7 mpg on your rig you will burn about 7.85 gallons, and burn another gallon per hour in the gen you are now burning 8.85 gallons for 55 miles making you mileage 6.2 mpg. Thanks Buster

  • If it is just the 2 of us, we run the dash air. If we have the kids and grand kids with us we run the generator and front AC.
  • It depends upon your coach and how hot hot is. It's not at all unusual to run the genset and the roof air, but in my own coach the dash air keeps us comfortable without added A/C. UNLESS it's really hot outside (90+). It will not keep anyone cool behind the front seats so if you need that you can go ahead and plan to use the genset everywhere you go in warm weather.
