- MagillaGorillaExplorerWhen I was a kid people would break into our house and steal our TVs. Every single time they did that they would take the blanket off my bed to wrap the tv in. That way they could walk through the neighborhood and no one would know they had a tv. The problem was not only did I loose a TV, I also had to be cold for a while. We had no spare blankets and I had to wait for my family to have enough money to buy a new one.
Years ago I was at a powerlifting competition in Vermont and someone broke into my truck and stole all my stuff the night before the competition. I found out in the morning when I was leaving for the competition. My mind was not in it and I bombed. Months of training down the drain. yes that was in Vermont where there is less crime than cows.
I guess I have bad luck or nice stuff. - msmith1199Explorer IILets see Milford Ct., population 53,000.
2012: 2 rapes, 33 robberies, 11 assaults, 150 burglaries, 1,371 thefts, 65 auto thefts, 4 arsons.
Yup, that is not a bad crime rate at all, but 65 people still had cars stolen. - mike_brezExplorer

Actually no. My wrangler is sitting out in my business parking lot right now with the doors unlocked and the key in the cup holder. With a razor knife you can slit the soft top no problem.

:h - crassterExplorer IIA safe is a good thing in some ways, but also well hidden items can be a great place too. You have to be very - VERY creative to hide things well. Fake electric outlets where things hide in storage in walls - fake shampoo (out of real bottles) and the like.
Long ago on an RV trip our "real" house was broken into when we were states away. They ripped a small safe out. My wife's heirloom ring from her 4x great grandmother was kept in a skin cleaning bottle along with other beauty products. The safe was gone, the ring was all there.
Somebody out there has backup CD's of my children's photos and a copy of my vehicle titles. LOL. Thank goodness I also had backup CD's off site. :) - msmith1199Explorer II

I'm not looking to put thousands of dollars and a load of crown jewels in the camper. I am just looking for a secure place for my wallet and a little cash while I may be at the beach or out for a walk with my wife. I get that if a real thief wants it they will get it. The same is true for my car yet I lock it every time I exit it. Don't you?
Actually no. My wrangler is sitting out in my business parking lot right now with the doors unlocked and the key in the cup holder. With a razor knife you can slit the soft top no problem. I never lock my motorhome storage bins if they want to get into them they will and the damage it will cause compared to what is in them is not worth it. I do lock the rv door when we are leaving the campsite and lock our bikes up.
You leave the key in the cup holder? Have you read the exclusions in your insurance policy lately? Purposely leaving the keys in a vehicle can possible exclude you from coverage in the event of a theft of the vehicle. - MagillaGorillaExplorerI grew up in a poor neighborhood and we were robbed many times. Not only was our apartment robbed, my very first car was stolen and never found. Another car was up on blocks one morning because someone tried to steal the rims. I guess its due to growing up like that, that I lock stuff up. Having your stuff gone when you get home stinks.
