adding additives to gas tank to forestall ethanol problems

I just bought a four winds 5000 motorhome and will be using it intermittently until I retire in a couple of years, what I wanted to know was if it would be a good idea to add an additive to handle the ethanol gas while its not being used. thanks...
  • 2oldman is correct. Many small engines like generators, lawn mowers, blowers etc. are experiencing problems with ethanol destroying the fuel lines and diaphragms in the carburetors. I use stabil in my gas truck. I use marine stabil in my boat as I'm told that ethanol attracts water. You should be fine with regular stabil in your MH. I like Seafoam for the small engines like the generator.
  • Stabil or not, probably your priority should be the generator. These carburetors can clog from evaporating fuel deposits. I highly recommend running the generator every few weeks long enough to warm it up and dry out the exhaust system.
  • Stabil is the thing to use if you are not out on the road. Don't forget to run the generator enough to get some down in there also.
  • Welcome to the forum.

I also use Sta-Bil in our Southwind when it's parked for the winter.

And, I spend a little more money and buy the Marine Sta-Bil. It's supposed to have more cleaners, etc., than the regular Sta-Bil.

I don't know if it's worth the extra cost but, it makes me feel better. :)

    Enjoy your travels.
  • Sta-bill is good. I use a lubricity additive for my diesel pickup since the sulphur content has been screwed it. It helps to keep the pump and injectors happy. The ethanol is eating at some rubber

materials in older vehicles they say.
  • I always add Sta-Bil unless I'm on a trip and will be burning up a full tank in a short time.
