A shorter unit is going to have more cargo carrying capacity. That might matter with a family. They are all 14,500 GVWR on the E450. I had a 31 foot one time, and it blew tires on me with alarming frequency as it was loaded to the max and then some. My 27-28 footer can carry about 3000 lbs of my junk and a trailer tongue weight at the sacrifice of a little room and a walk around bed.
