I know to aim at the directv 101 and that works for me but the last time I had a installer out he said you want to pick up two sats. When I aim at the 101 I only get channels 70 and up. when he aimed it I got all including 1 thru 70. It looked like his was a little off of the 101. Is there something else I should be aiming at? I use sat finder app to line up with 101.

we used one the other weekend in the mountains of NC. We used a dual LNB and hooked two campers with home sets to see DirectTV.We just aimed based on the permanently mounted ones around us in the permanent sites. We got our BASIC DirectTV with what each of has as our packages at home. I had my local channels and all the others. I had to change my set up from SWM, multiport 32" dish that I use at home for HD and all the other stuff. To use an 18" dish I have to take the multiport out then reselect my set as an 18" dish. Programming is the same as home except I don't have FULL HD.Most of the time with us being on the east coast the angle is almost so close we don't adjust it, we just have to turn VERY, very slowly to catch the dish. never had a problem but I also keep my extra receiver on full time for an extra $6 a month, but I have the cable ran to the camper as it rest's under its shelter. So anytime I am at home I can turn tv on see DirectTV.randy

Depends on what dish you are using. Only the slimline will get HD on 3 sats. You need to adjust elevation, azimuth and skew. 18" SD dish will only get the 101 and the receiver has to be set for it. Chuck

Direct uses three birds 99,101, and 119 I believe. If your using a sat finder app set all three then you center on 101 the other three should hit. Unless your using the old style round dish.

For SD content all you need is to lock in sat 101 to receive whatever programming you have subscribed to. The round 18" Directv dish can only acquire a single sat while the larger oval dish can attain all three sats which will provide all the HD/SD channels Directv carries. We purchased the same slimline HD dish we have at home for RVing, acquiring all three sats for HD programming is not any different than acquiring just sat 101 as long as dish has been set to pointing parameters as outlined by receiver or whatever app is used.Whether you lock in just sat 101 or all three Directv sats, you should always receive all the channels you have subscribed to just like at home. How the sat dish is pointed shouldn't increase or decrease the Directv programming you have under your current plan with the exception of free previews.It is possible to have less channels when attempting to acquire all three satellites, which can occur when just 2 of the three available satellites are locked in. With Directv you always lock in sat 101, for HD sat dish just properly set tilt and other 2 sats should come right in.
