Air Bags and Brake Proportioning Valve

I want to install air bags on the rear of my 2006 Four Winds Hurricane 31D While searching for the air bags (Firestone Ride Rite) they have a caution note that says not for Thor Motor Homes. Another vendor says if you have proportioning Brakes check with manufacture. Can anyone shed some light on this. Dose the 2006 F-53 chassis have a Proportioning Valve for the brakes. Thor took over Four Winds in 1992 so it is a Thor product. any help appreciated.

  • I could find no mention of such valve in my tech manual for my 2006 f-53. Perhaps they are just thinking class-c.

Technically they did not merge into Thor motorized vehicles until 2010 prior to that Thor owned four winds. I don't know why they are excluding Thor it is still a Ford chassis you need to call them and ask 800-903-2760
When I emailed Suspension Connection this is the Email I received from them.

When I called their number, I asked why the Thor Motor homes were excluded. When I explained that the Chassis was a F-53 I was told the air bags would fit.
    Go figure.

  • If the proportioning valve is hooked to the rear axle you don't want to use air bags because when you lift the body up away from the rear axle it limits the rear braking. Look and see if the brake line to the rear end goes thru a valve on the frame that has a lever going to the rear end.
