Air brake alarm

I have a 1996 Monaco Dynasty. When I am stopped at a light or stop sign the PSI decreases from 120 to 90 psi. On the way down from 120 to 90 the air brake system alarm goes off that is not a continuous sound but interment sound like beep, beep, beep. Once I start to go again the beep sound continues till I go back to 120 psi. I have checked the air lines and there is no leaks. Has anyone had this issue and if yes how do I fix it? Thank you in advance.

  • You need to get it checked out before you lose all pressure and are stranded alongside the road. That warning is for a reason. If you lose all air pressure your brakes will lock up. GET IT CHECKED OUT NOW!

Can you please tell me what a brake actuator is and where do I find it?

The units at the wheels that operate the brake shoes. If it were a hydraulic system, it would be wheel cylinders. These things are pretty good size. Next time you are in your car following a tractor trailer, look at the trailer axles, just inboard of the wheels. See those big round things? Those are the actuators.

Sounds like it might be time to seek some professional help. A steady loss of air brake pressure and then a slow recovery should have been a red flag.

  • Yours is newer then mine by a couple years, ricelake922, but on mine, you're suppose to proactively drain the air tank of any moisture by pulling a cable device. I can't remember for sure, maybe every couple days or so of driving. It's in my book but I'm to lazy to go look. And I'm parked for a couple months so it's not a great concern. So, check your book, maybe?

I'm with the others that think you probably have a leak in a brake actuator. But you should drain the tank.
  • Are you holding the brake down? If so, you may well have a leaking brake can, or a line to one.
  • When you drain the air tanks do you see any water, as stated the air dryer may need to be changed.

  • The air dryer element may need to be changed. If clogged it takes a long time to recover.
  • Usually alarms comes below 60psi and few psi less the brakes lock, but with so many possibilities you can't tell for sure that one coach logic apply to another one.
I would start with calling manufacturer or reading the manual.
    Whatever is easier.
