I would like to add some clarity. Hyperbole was used to highlight differences rather than denigrate another persons choice. To continue the analogy, a bottle rocket is fun and affordable. If you aspire to a moon landing, however, it simply won't do the job. It is simply the wrong tool.
Dennis has provided an example of how circumstance, market forces and regulation conspired to the extreme. Nothing more. Otherwise you might as well compare a MH to a shoe as they both provide transportation.
There are some MH's whose only difference is the fuel the engine uses, at a large up charge. For me, that would not be a good value decision. However, if it works for you, enjoy!
Comparing routine maintenance to non routine maintenance is imprudent. Oil changes, filters are not that much more, for example. Dennis has provided an extreme example of non routine maintenance differences. None of that changes the additional amenities and capacities that are available on that motorhome and unavailable on other MH's.
All this points out the way people confuse value with cost. They are not the same. To some, the additional cost of Aqua-Hot provides no value, so they won't spend the money. To me. Aqua-Hot is a must have, so it's incremental cost is what it is.
Value to me is getting what I want without having to pay for the things I don't want.
I'm hoping Dennis can find a replacement part for less than the original estimate.
