I've Never heard of that !? I've seen people use them on generators when parked close together but never seen a AH with one .. Not that it's not possible I do know some people are VERY sensitive to almost any odor, some plastics , diesel , gas you name it. If the AH if not serviced and adjusted, yes , it could put out excessive exhaust fumes.
As a truck driver I've stayed in many truck stops and guess I'm immune to the diesel odor. Good idea to be good neighbor though ... If it's not real COLD I leave my AH. On electric most of the time ( except if I want a long shower !) the noise would be more of s bother to anyone not inside but if it's that cold they should have their windows closed.
