Allegro front engine diesel

Starting to look more and more like we might be buying a 2008 Allegro 35QBA. Front engine diesel. 38,000 miles.
Thoughts? Things to watch for? Things to ignore?
Buying it from a friend who says it needs a new rear furnace, and that the check engine light is on but he's getting that light checked this week.

    I can't believe car owners those days still don't have OBD scanners.
    CEL usually is emission stuff, so not a big deal, but you want it fixed.
    With front engine, first make sure you are comfortable with noise.
    I watch old movies I record my wife when driving with front diesel and lately having DP can't figure out why we did yell to each other ;)
