Allison transmission

When you change the transmission oil, do you have to use the allison filter or can u use an aftermarket one?
  • For the price difference, why worry about it as it is only pennies.

  • NAPA has their own filter that probably meets the Allison requirements. Just like various manufacturers that make their own "Transynd" type transmission fluid that meets all of the 295 requirements as set by Allison.
  • When changing fluid, do you just drain what comes out and refill to full, or do most of you disconnect the line and drain the TQ as well.
  • I was bringing it in to a service center and they only had napa filter. Wanted to make sure I could use that brand too instead of getting one from allison. The center can't get the filter they said. They are doing the oil change on it too

Just make sure that they take the magnet off of the old filter, clean it, and put it on the new filter.
A mechanic that doesn't know what he is doing will just pull the old filter and throw everything away.

Can't or won't bother! They can if they tried.
