Am I Getting Ready to Buy A Lemon?

Hey Everyone, Newbie forum member here, getting ready to take delivery of my first RV Friday of this week and just joined to try and get info about the new family experience my family is getting ready to start. Well as I searched some I found an old thread that I think is the RV that I'm planning on buying, which is a used Hurricane 34Y from the Buffalo NY area (I'm in North Carolina and was going to fly up to get unit on Friday). See thread:

Thread about Lemon Hurricane 34Y in Buffalo NY

Being that the unit I'm looking at has 3600 miles I'm betting it is the same unit. The dealer (Colton RV in Buffalo area) told me there were no issues with the unit and it looked brand new. I was wondering why the mileage was so low and asked about that. Dealer said when I go there if I wasn't happy I could walk away from deal, so I put deposit down on unit to hold.

Reading the thread sure is making me get wet feet. Any suggestions or thoughts? I really don't need any headaches....

Thanks,

Howard

  • Don't rely completely on a Car Fax type of check. Those are not reliable, and especially with maintenance issues. You are right to be afraid. We have bought two used motor homes, both from Lazy Days in Tampa, Fl. They offer a 30 day guarantee which starts after you leave their lot. Our current MH had a lot of very minor issues, and we stayed on their lot until they fixed every one of them. Fortunately for us, new issues kept popping up, so they kept fixing them. It turned out to be a very good thing for us because we got lots of things fixed
    or replaced.

My point, is to maybe consider a dealer that has a good warranty program, like Lazy Days. They treated us right and we drove off with new tires, batteries, toilet, refrigerator, awning topper, slide seals....and the list goes on.

    Good luck.
  • It could be the same unit, and if not it gives you a list of flaws that you may experience. I would find out if its the same unit for sure before I went to see it.jmho
  • It may not even be the same RV. PM Blackracker and ask some pertinent questions that would allow you to identify it. VIN comes to mind, license plate, colors all those things. May not be the same one. CarFax is another thing. Search for a PDI form. PDI means Pre-Delivery Inspection. There are several online. There are even some for used rigs, Class A's, TTs and other types.

Good Luck and welcome to the Forums. Asking questions first can really help.
