American Coach Air Bed

Looking at a 2013 Revolution and it has option 855 Queen Bed with Air. (Master bed, not couch) The other option was memory foam which I would have preferred, or even either in King bed.

Question - does "air" just mean an air mattress? or is it more sophisticated like a sleep number bed or something like that?. Wife is really frowning when she heard "air" and keeps thinking of the air mattress that comes out of the couches.
  • We wouldn't be without our Sleep Number bed, we love it! And my wife and I are probably 100# different with no problems. We both are comfortable.
  • We just purchased a 2010 Rev LE 42w and it has BOTH the Sleep Number bed and also the memory foam which seems to be about 3" thick. That combination sleeps fantastic. Don't feel a thing when wife goes in and out of bed and she says the same about when I get in and out.

We tried a Sleep Number years ago in our home and hated it so it was returned after 30 days. Now, I wish I had added memory foam to it.
  • We had the Sleep Number air bed in out last coach and loved it so much, we bought one for the house. Our new coach has a 10" memory foam mattress and it sleeps very well also. The air mattress is usually an option because the cost more. I would think anything in an American coach would be high quality, not just a $59 air mattress.
  • IMHO beds like the sleep by number only work well for couples that are of similar size and weight. DW and I slept in one for a week and no matter how we adjusted the pressure on either side DW said her side moved up and down every time I moved and especially when I got in or out of bed. I am 4" taller and, more significantly, 100# heavier than her. We have settled on a good quality memory foam bed at home and in our TT.
  • We did not have good luck with our Sleep Number bed that came with our new 2008 Monaco Dynasty. The air motor went out just after one year and was replaced by Sleep Number. A few months later, the wands would not show the number (we lived with it)... then one side would not hold air, flat as a pancake.

So, while traveling north of St. Louis in St. Charles, we went out and bought a 'real' mattress, a king Beauty Rest with a pillow top. What a difference!!!! We discarded the piece-of-junk Sleep Number bed in the dumpster and never looked back.

When we sold the coach, I replace our expensive Beauty Rest with a regular RV mattress from Camping World and exchanged an older mattress from home for the Beauty Rest.

Don't let the mattress make you not buy a good motorhome, the junky Sleep Number mattress can always be replaced by a real mattress.

    Good luck,
    MM.
  • It's a Sleep Number bed or equivalent - a very nice bed. American Coach isn't going to cheap-out on comfort; they make an above average coach.
