There are many factors that contribute to fuel mileage. If you look at car & truck mileage it is considably higher today. When discussing MH fuel mileage, you have to compare apples to apples as engines are bigger today and the gross weight is more today than in the past. Many drive faster today which lowers fuel mileage. I often get 8-9 mpg with a gross wt. Of 28K.
In addition when fuel was less than a $1.00 a gal. nobody worried about the cost.
