The exhaust coming out of a 2010 and up diesel is cleaner than the air going in! They also get better fuel mileage. But there is no free lunch. NONE of the newer engines have a properly working emission system. They are so problematic that big fleets order 4000 trucks when they only need 3000. That way they always have tractors that will run. It will probably be 10 or more years until they engineer a working emission system. Often the dealers cannot even diagnose the problem and have to call the factory where an engineer tries to solve the problem. I have been driving long haul in the summer and this year I was thrilled to have a 2014 Cascadia with a 600 HP Detroit DD60. I was stuck in York ,NE for 3 days while Detroit first tried to solve the problem and then tried to find the parts. There is a box under the passenger side step that caused the problem. Pallet size and heavy. Called a one box. Contains the DPF,Urea doser and the DOC. Was under warranty but has a list price of over $12,000!!! OTR drivers all have this problem. RV'rs do not as we don't put on the miles or idle very much. If anyone on this forum has a DP that uses UREA do NOT idle your unit.
