I got to mine, on my '04, through the doghouse. As I mentioned, it's above the driver's side of the radiator, just a few inches from your foot, when it's on the accelerator pedal. It might be accessible from the front, might just have to move some rubber shrouding, I'm not sure. The cable and the wires go to the rear, so the doghouse seemed like the right place to be working to me.
Found an engine picture online, not mine. I circled the module. You can just see it under the hose. My motor cover doesn't go as far forward, making it harder to get at, but that's where Ford puts it.
