Another tire question

My Michelin tires are just starting to show some barely detectable cracking. tire dates are 24/12 so a little over 5 years old. I keep them cover whenever stored. Any idea how much long I can run them safely?
How are Continental Tires? FMCA have a special pricing for members on Michelin's and Continental's, the Contintenal's are a lot cheaper, just wondering how the handle and ride.
The Michelin's are about $715 295/75/22.5 (a Michelin size) Continental's are about $411 for 295/75/22.5 an equivalent size to the Michelin's if I'm figuring right.

Should already be off. Lot of weight to carry on cracked tires
  • I would get an opinion from a qualified (and reputable) tire shop. Slight surface cracks may simply indicate aging and weathering but not be a safety concern. Deep cracks are very much a safety concern.

I personally would not hesitate to use Continental (or most any other DOT-approved brand) of tires in the correct size and load range for the vehicle.
  • Wow thats disappointing from a big dollar tire. I wouldn't drive around my motorhome with cracked tires. There are other brands out there. Do your own research. I have decided on Sumitomo's this spring.
  • I would not drive tires with cracks across the street never mind on mountain roads or interstate highways.
  • I ran that size Continental on our Alpine 38'. No problems.
  • Not sure about Continentals in your size, but you might also look at Hankook tires. They seem to get good reviews across the board.
