An old rabbit ear antenna will pick up digital signal.......
The old TVs had analog tuners....when the switch to digital signal occurred 'converter boxes' were needed so the old analog TVs would still receive OTA signals. (Converter----familiar term)
Your new digital TV will work just fine with your Bat wing antenna
The power to amplifier in antenna head has to be ON
Crank up antenna
Antenna has to be 'aimed' towards transponder tower(s) to receive the digital signal (narrower signal so you either have it or don't)
You can get an idea on which direction to 'aim' by looking at which direction other campers have theirs pointed (head of antenna) OR use one of several 'digital tower direction' maps via internet

LINKOnce you have aimed the antenna
Select 'air', 'antenna' from TV input menu
Then do a channel scan
After you have done the channel scan you can fine tune the signal
Signal strength on channel info or tv menu
Then very slowly rotate antenna and wait for signal strength update
IF your antenna is NOT a powered amplified head---then you need to replace with a powered amplified one
Each time you relocate you need to repeat steps to receive channels
For cable.....
Hook up coax cable to rig input
Turn amplifier power OFF
Select 'cable' on TV input
Scan for channels
IF you have a TV distribution box
Select TV (or cable etc.) on dist. box
