Lots of good information guys- I appreciate it.
Current battery is the D34M w/55AH (still holding at 12.49v, disconnected). I'd estimate that 85% of our trips are off the grid. We are frugal with lighting even using AA battery stick ons in places. The biggest waste we have is the hood light when it's forgotten or the 'porch' light. We haven't upgraded yet to LED and have the original incandescent bulbs.
The previous owner had another battery under the dinette seat so he must have been having issues. We've had this unit for 8 years so lighting hasn't been a hardship or I would have done something.
As I understand it to test the converter I just put the DVM on both contacts where I took the fuse out after I reconnect the battery? I'm leaning toward a replacement but I need for my piece of mind to confirm that is indeed the issue, tho it may be one of many.
The PD4645 converter must be compatible with a solar controller, no? I'd like to put a 100 watt panel on the roof while I'm at it. Also the group 31 Optima at 75AH is a better battery but is it the best choice? Changing to LED's is most likely in my future- any suggestions? Please also consider I'm on a fixed income. I need bang for my buck.
