One more question about the 1.4 Volts? Where and how are you getting that reading??? Things do not draw volts, they draw amps. Volts is a measure of pressure.
IF, you are putting the voltmeter inline with the power lead you will get a meaningless measurement.
500 milliamps is a significant draw. That is 1/2 of an amp and could run a battery down in a couple of days.
Look around the top edge of your refer to see if there is a switch. Some have a drier switch.
