Any innovative solutions for adding more batteries?

By the dimensions it looks like you could fit four GC2 batteries in the compartment. Might be a PITN to service so maybe AGM but then you probably should match the existing with same AGM.

I would look at upping the inverter to 2000 watts.

If you just add two batteries you might fit a Honda 1000 in the space but again you need access for ease of use. The 1000 is taller than the Onan.
