Any Issues with 42 ft Motorhome

We've been all over the country in a 40' and 45' MH. We've stayed in NP's, SP,s and COE parks. The campgrounds that can be tough are the older ones in the northeast. Occasionally they have low branches and narrow roads. Even in the northeast we can always find a campground that'll take us in the area we want to be. As someone else said, those that express a concern probably haven't owned a longer MH.

Not on home puter... Do a search usfs and IvyLog. 42' not a problem.

For full time you will not regret getting a 42 ft motor home - more storage and will not be confining

Public parks are always our first choice and we stayed in them 95% of our 16 years of full-timing. We also volunteered in them.

Our 40' fit in Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier, Zion, Bryce and many more. We've also stayed in hundreds of national forest campgrounds along with Corp of Engineers, state parks, county parks and city parks. We also boondocked in off the highway places and spent the summer in Alaska, staying at those kinds of places.

We love driving mountain roads and there's a publication called 'Mountain Directory for Truckers and RVers' that I would recommend.

When folks say you can't do it, they either have not tried or it's not their kind of RVing. I will say that you have to do more research for places but we've never been turned away because we couldn't fit.

Other than size, I'd wonder why it's a "great deal"? Something wrong?

We stay in State, COE, Federal and really most any campground we want including Thousand Trails..:E. Trick is to call ahead and ask about size appropriate campsites. Most State and Federal CG are modifying at least some of their sites for larger rigs. Try this, many State CGs use Reserve America. Pull up some of the places you like and plug in your 42' length and see how many sites come up. Yes, you won't be able to get into every site, but there will be a place for you.

You'll enjoy the extra smoothness that comes from the tag. Unfortunately, Winnie doesn't offer the owner adjustable tag like Monaco. I'm also not sure if the Tour comes with a liftable tag. That's a great feature also.

Downside is two extra tires come tire buying time, two extra TPMS sensors and an extra charge when you go through the toll booth. Some states prohibit three axle vehicles in the car pool lane unless you're a bus.

Good luck, if the floor plan is acceptable, you'll enjoy the coach. Friends of mine have a 40' Tour with a tag and have been fulltiming as long as we have. They enjoy it and only issues they've had was with the AquaHot which isn't Winnie's fault...Dennis

Personally, I think 42' is a good length for full timing (at least the minimum length). It gives you a tag axle to carry the extra weight of all your belongings. Since it has a tag, 42' gives you enough extra length to get a second full size pass thru.

Take a good look at the roof line paint before purchase. Many companies had issues with the clear coat going bad and the ONLY fix is to repaint. Winnebago was one of the companies with paint issues and even the newer Tour, was STILL having the front caps go bad.

Outside of getting used to driving something that large....no problem. You will soon recognize the limitations. Call ahead to RV parks to ensure they have spaces adequate for you MH and use the RV park review site for detailed info on access and etc.

As with the above poster, we've found that there are some places we just won't fit with our 42' MH.

Tail swing is something we have to watch out for. (Make sure your back end stays in your lane on curves.)

Know what your turning radius is before you NEED TO KNOW what it is. Test it out, I mean.

I'm sure there's other stuff I haven't thought of.
