- JeepBusExplorerI've owned my Discovery since I was 38. Us "younger" class A owners are out there but most of the people I see in my age bracket have toyhaulers and a bunch of ATVs or motorcycles. I suspect that once the kids get a few years older and family simplifies a lot of them will sell the toys and move to a Class A.
- Rick_JayExplorer III was 43 when we bought our Class A back in 2004. Still own it, now I'm 54.
A lot of "younger" families looking for a motorhome are often steered toward a Class C. Some silly adage about "Class A's are for couples, Class C's are for families." While there might be some truth to that in specific situations, it isn't true for everyone. It's all about the floorplan, storage & holding tanks for the planned usage of the motorhome. The dual sofa, dual slide floorplan in our Class A has been perfect for our family of 6 over the last 10 years, and we expect it to be for the next 10+ years as well. Unfortunately, it's not a popular floorplan in gassers. I think if it were, many would find it a good fit.
For those looking for a rig, too many people listen to the salespeople. Do your own research and buy what fits your needs best.
Oh...and Merry Christmas!!! :)
~Rick - rcarpe06ExplorerOwned a Class A for a year now and am 38.
- mike_brezExplorerUnder 55 had a class A now for 13 years before that a 5er for 2 years and a class C for 4 years
- neilnbeExplorerWife's 47 I'm 49 had a class A for almost 10 years now. Have 2 kids who still like going to the races and the beach. Do belong to fmca. Not sure why you need to be 55 to buy one, when we bought our first one no one questioned us...didn't question us when we bought the one we have now either. If it works for you why not?
- rgatijnet1Explorer IIINever bothered with clubs when we were younger with a Class A. Family vacation work schedules dictated our travel plans and we didn't have time for clubs.
- kab449ExplorerEver hear the saying "make hay when the sun shines"? The RV companies are riding the baby boomer wave. They have the money and the good health to do it in numbers that supports the industry. Studies suggest the generation behind the boomers are not as wealthy and do not embrace the lifestyle as much. There will be fewer younger people buying the big money rigs and the manufacturers are going to have to adapt.
I have owned a class A since age 50 to directly answer your post. I provide the above info to indicate the overall direction of class A ownership. - Dale_TravelingExplorer IIClose but still under the bar. We're both 53. Started 4 years ago with nothing and jumped in with both feet into a class A.
- stew47ExplorerI'm 39 and wife is 34. We don't belong in any clubs. Bought a used Winnie last May.
- rk911Exploreryup. we've had two class A gassers in the last 28-years...a 1985 Winnebago Chieftain (1986-2000) and a 2000 Itasca Suncruiser (2000-present). I'm 64, the wife is 63.
