I have seen that many times and it is frustrating. If you come across that again you can walk your card in and let them turn the pump on from inside. This way at least it will just be one transaction. Filling my rig at a FJ is no easier I still have to walk my card in, go pump, then go inside again. Each time getting in a line to the register.
I hope you are not leaving your card inside with an attendant you don't know!
