This has been the case for some time. The credit card contract with most stations allows for only $75 to $150 (COSTCO) when paying at the pump. Just go inside, hand them your CC and give them an amount to pre-charge. When done pumping,go back inside and they will charge only the amount pumped, or possibly credit back the difference.
