Anyone else have this problem when fueling???

Pulled into a larger gas station along the interstate to refuel. I used the "RV" lane. Used my credit card started the pump and only $75.00 later it shuts off!!! COME ON I'm in the "RV lane" and it will only let me have $75.00 at a time!!! At the very least it should have a $200.00 limit. I can't fill up my pickup truck for $75.00. So now I have to shut it down reswipe my card and start over. Does anyone know of a way to get around this or are all stations this way now?

Everyone has that issue. It's no fun but it's purpose is to prevent fraud and theft. Since the station nor the bank know how much gas you'll buy they put a pre-set authorization against your card. This is usually $75. It is the same amount the station is guaranteed should there be a theft. It minimizes the risk to the bank, the station and you as a consumer if a skimmer or thief were to obtain your card or number and buy gas. I agree, it's not fun but neither is someone using your credit card or number. What's worse, unless you tell your bank you are travelling, some flag the account for "irregular" behavior. Ie: buying a lot of gas in another state. I work for a bank and had mine blocked when trying to swipe 2x to fill up the RV. I had to call and let them know I was travelling. We as good consumers have to suffer due to criminals.
  • SOME stations list the limits on the pump. Sometimes it varies with the type of CC, be it MC or Visa. I have seen some stations with limits up to $450, but they are few and far between.
The limits are set by the station and NOT the CC company.
