Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

This is a rough draft of a possible drawer front, with black walnut. These are just sitting there, not glued into place, just to see how it would look.

It does provide a little contrast.

This was one of the few times that I violated the normal rules of using a router.

In this pic, the left side is normally how a router would be used, if the bit is rotating clockwise, then the router should move from right to left, based on the red arrow being the router direction, and the black arrow being the rotating direction of the router bit.

However, since the walnut that I am trimming, is very thin, there is very little danger of the router bit grabbing the work, and pulling itself into the work.

However, using the example on the left, it is very possible to "chip" the walnut.

What I did was go the opposite way. (right side, router bit direction is black arrow, and blue arrow is router direction). I had no problems with the router grabbing the work, and pulling the router forward, uncontrollably.

If I was cutting more thickness than the 1/32" - say, 1/2 to 3/4", that would be an entirely different story. In that scenario, the router will grab the wood, and pull itself into the work, which is NOT a good thing. Be Careful!!!

I pulled out my mini router, and stuck in it a straight router bit with a bearing on the bottom.

Time to trim off the excess walnut that I just glued into place.

Glued some more drawers today, both top and bottom walnut pieces.











I now have the last 5 of those glued on to the plywood.

Next will be to glue the sides on.

Probably just not smart enough to know when to quit. Lol.

Seriously though, it's much easier to keep going if I just concentrate on "what can I do today", as opposed to "everything that needs to be done".

Thank you for following, and hopefully I'll be able to ramp up the amount of work getting done on a daily basis, shortly.

Still will be some surprises to come - as in - "this guy's crazy".

Actually, I think some of this build will work better for us in the long run, but we'll see. If we don't fully like it, we can change it down the road.

As you have seen during this adventure, the vast majority of this has been done with the Ryobi cordless, portable power tools.

To me, many times, technique will accomplish more, than just having all the newest and greatest machinery, and not know how to use them. Then again, that's just my thinking.

I don't plan on completely covering the fronts, but just a portion, so we have a little contrast on the drawer fronts. Some black walnut, and some maple.

With the table saw, I could cut about 3" on each side for a total of 6" of height. I could also cut about 6-7" on the bandsaw and then either sand or plane it. Might have to go a little thicker than 1/32" thick though, IF I was planning on covering the entire front.

I am 'assuming' you will be putting black walnut veneer on the drawer fronts? Curious how you will be cutting that wide veneer?
